Vianello wants prospect clash with Conto

According to The Athletic, two of Top Rank’s many heavyweight up-and-comers may be on a collision course. S-Jam Boxing, who manage Italian Olympian Guido Vianello, tell the publication that they want to pit their charge against Sonny Conto in early 2021.

“The Bronco’s” team is not impressed.

Spoke to Conto’s manager, David McWater, who responded: “They’re clowns. No upside to Vianello at all. What you see now is what he will be in five years or ten, an awkward stiff.”

Sounds like fightin’ words to me.

Vianello (7-0, 7 KO) has by far the superior amateur pedigree and looks to be a little farther along in his pro career, recently knocking out veteran Don Haynesworth and exclusively fighting people with winning records. Conto (6-0, 5 KO), two years younger at 24, just beat his first >.500 foe in 5-4 Curtis Head this past January. Vianello is also two inches taller and a good 20 pounds bigger, going by their recent weigh-ins.

Still, I’m very much down for this. I love seeing prospects test themselves against one another the way Daniel Dubois and Nathan Gorman did last year.
