Charisma Carpenter responds to Joss Whedon’s Justice League comments against Ray Fisher and Gal Gadot, saying he should just apologize.

Actress Charisma Carpenter has responded to Joss Whedon‘s recent comments about Justice League stars. Whedon recently did an interview with Vulture, where he opened up about allegations that have been leveled against him in the past year. The director and showrunner has been accused by multiple people of abusive, sexist, and unprofessional behavior on the set of his many films and TV shows, including Buffy, Angel, Firefly, and Justice League. One of the people who shared their negative experiences working with Whedon is Carpenter, who shared a lengthy explanation on Twitter in 2021. Carpenter played Cordelia Chase on Whedon’s Angel from 1999 – 2004.

Whedon seems to remember things differently, giving his response to her allegations in the interview, saying that most « experiences with Charisma were delightful and charming. » Also in the interview, Whedon responds to allegations from both Gal Gadot and Ray Fisher, both who have claimed that the director was unprofessional and even threatened their careers during reshoots for Justice League, saying that Gadot may have misunderstood him due to English being her second language, while going on to call Fisher a « malevolent force » as well as a « bad actor in both senses. » Both Fisher and Gadot have already responded to Whedon’s comments, but now Carpenter is chiming in.

Carpenter took to Twitter and posted two tweets in defense of both Gadot and Fisher, saying that she stands with Ray Fisher, posting the oft-used hashtag, quoting Whedon’s comments before calling him a « tyrannical narcissistic boss who is still unable to be accountable and just apologize. » For Gadot, Carpenter addresses Whedon’s claim that she perhaps misunderstood him on the set of Justice League (Gadot has since said that she « understood perfectly » what he had meant), saying that she believes Gadot can understand threats in multiple languages. Take a look at her responses below:

Despite her issues with Whedon, Carpenter has gone on to a successful career in Hollywood, starring in a number of projects since her departure from Angel. She has since appeared in Veronica Mars, The Lying Game, Supernatural, Blue Bloods, etc., and showed up in a recurring part for both The Expendables and The Expendables 2. Whedon exited his most recent project, The Nevers, which debuted on HBO last year.

With so many allegations and claims against Whedon, it’s unclear what he hoped to prove with the interview that has sparked this new backlash. With wounds still very fresh and more allegations coming forward all the time, there’s not much hope that Whedon could smooth anything over, especially given his responses in the interview. In context, his responses sound like non-apologies or victim-blaming, and none of it has gone over well with his accusers, almost all of whom have commented back in recent days, which doesn’t help Joss Whedon‘s cause at all.
